I posted a picture of this flower a few years back, but I like to update my picture file periodically, so here's this year's bloom. Registered in 1940 by Sanders, this complex hybrid is very compact (10 inches [25cm] leaf span) and shows its fairrieanum influence from both sides of its family.

I haven't seen this hybrid before, great colours, great dorsal and a nice synsepal too! That's an oldie well worth keeping!

It has been used sparingly in hybridizing, but up until now, all complex breeding has been focused on producing LARGER, better shaped flowers. I'm hoping that it passes along its compact size and nice dorsal to its progeny.

  BOLD dorsal, quite impressive when looking at the whole plant!

I'm not normally one for the brown/red complexes but this one is fabulous. Really rich colours and that dorsal is just wild!

Well, I'm glad you're using it for breeding! And I'm looking forward to see its kids.

I could imagine put a carefully chosen Brachy(-influenced) hybrid on it to produce a nice pink. To put something like Tyke or Dolls Kobold on it would certainly also produce charming stuff and is less adventureous.

Gorgeous! I would love to have this one! My nephew graduated from West Point, and it's a beauty to boot! :D
