Grand Chupacabra
Paph. Chiada Gill is delenatii x thaianum.
This came from Ross Hella at Deerwood Orchids.
The flower is a bit wonky, but I am confident it can improve. This is a first bloom seedling and I haven't been able to keep it properly watered since it started spiking up due to ... life. But it persevered and I am thankful for it.
The flower is tiny at around 2.25 inches (5.5 cm) spread on a surprisingly tall spike. Leaf span of this plant is around 5.5 inches (14 cm), so it's definitely on the small growing side, which I appreciate. Of course, I had to include photos of the foliage as that's the main draw for me.
The flower has a subtle, but detectable fragrance that is quite lovely. It's citrusy and a bit floral and a good mix of the southern magnolia scent from delenatii with a bit of lime peel which seems to come from thaianum based on my experience with some of its hybrids that have similar notes.
Although it is fragrant, the flower isn't really my thing. But as I mentioned, I like the small growing nature of the plant and the beautiful foliage makes it a keeper for me. Flowers are temporary anyway, but the foliage is there to look at year round.
Sorry for the detailed view of my eyelash. I didn't notice it on the petal when I was taking photos and I'm too lazy at the moment to go back and reshoot or try to figure out how to convince AI to remove it.
