I always look forward to Paphiopedilum fairrieanum season. Such a magnificent bloom to brighten up the gloomiest of short dark winter days.
Certainly one of the most enjoyable slipper orchids to photograph. These shots were taken with my Nikon Z8, 105mm F2.8 macro lens. The aperture used here was F14 to get as much of the flower in focus as possible.
I ocassionally get queries about how I get the background so black. I use a Lastolite collapsible backdrop positioned at least 6 feet away from the flower, far enough back to avoid any light from my lights hitting it.
