Perhaps you should tell your friend the difference between var, forma and clonal name. Something that even a hobbyist should know.

Or did your friend collect all these vars you showed us in the wild from stable populations?

I agree with you. Mr Hakone confuses the rules of Nomenclature. Any forma or Variety must be described in a recognisable orchid journal and should show some differences in its structural attributes. He can give it a clonal name (with a '--------') which belongs to this particular plant. Paph mocquetteanum's habitat stretched from Bali to west Java. And I wonder why he was so secretive where the plant came from, when asked.
