Paphiopedilum Vipanii

I bought this plant from @orchid527 back in June 2020 when I was first getting into keeping orchids. After nearly two years it has become a clump of a plant and decided to flower! The first one came out kind of funky but this second one is really lovely to look at.

“interesting” is a nice way to put it lol. The First bud to flower reminds me of Bulbophyllum in weirdness.

It was one plant, if I remember correctly it was 2-3 growths when I received it

Looking on OrchidRoots, I don’t see any progeny produced by Vipanii. I don’t know if that’s because it’s a sterile grex, if efforts to continue the line was overshadowed by roth x brachy hybrids instead, or if the grex is just really THAT reluctant to bloom; regardless of the reason, I tried pollinating the funky first flower with niveum pollen I saved from last summer and it looks like it may have taken!

Been looking for Vipanii for years. Graham at Lehua once had them but no more. Said it wasn't a commercially viable plant and blooms tended to be "wonky"!
