this is the first seedling to bloom 3 years out of flask. Funny, the plant didnt do so well and is on the smaller side..Most of the others are fuller and bigger. The first flower dropped just as it was about to be fully open..Chuck Acker told me it was probably the temps..so i dropped the daytime temps to 80..sure enough, this one stayed on
(2.25 inches across)

Nice,
Well worth blooming again, it will be better when it is a larger, multi-growth plant. Dorsal is narrow, with weak color compared to the petals. However, when a larger plant, and bloomed in winter (cooler) rather than summer, it may be dramatically better. Definitely worth giving it another chance. The first to bloom from a flask, likely has the traits that lead to easy bloom induction. Another point in its favor.

'Firehouse' must be exceptional. After looking at the award images I'm amazed something this nice came out of that cross. 'Cow Hollow II' is pointy in all segments - but it was awarded in '91. Lots of breeding since then. The award image shows 'Cow Hollow II' carrying two flowers. Fingers crossed for your other bigger fuller plants, they might be even rounder. 'Cow Hollow II' has the FCC, plain old 'Cow Hollow' has an HCC. Both are pointy. I guess typical for the time. I'm so used to seeing the rounder petals. And as far as I know neither 'Cow Hollow' looks like var delessandroi. Their petal stance is var besseae. IMHO. I looked it up because 'Cow Hollow' is the clonal name used by a local exhibitor and I wanted to see what he got awarded way back when. Thanks for the education opportunity and trip down memory lane.

Isn't that what "they" are saying these days? No more Phrag delessandroi it's been put back into besseae, now Phrag besseae var besseae and var delessandroi. YMMV

And yes you should have bought the Hanne Popow. *G*
