These flowers are from the same clone.

This was the first bloom produced in warmer conditions - photo taken August 31:



This is the latest and last flower on the spike The photo was taken January 1st:



The petal blemish is unfortunate, but the flower segments are fuller. The color is a bit darker as well, but lighting conditions were different, so it doesn't appear that way.

The cooler temps can really make a difference in these. Both blooms are lovely but the shape and color in January are stunning.

Is this a first time bloomer? I am wondering if some of the shape changes are also influenced by maturity.

I have had the plant for several years. It's OZ breeding - Z6819 ('Bleeding Heart' x 'Colossal').

That's a good line bred cross. That was one of the group of crosses that was used for the besseae lava flow at the 2008 WOC.

Yep. That last flower will probably drop soon, and that will be it until next year.
