This cross (caricinum x longifolium) is one of that small handful registered in the late 19th century, in this case in 1881, the same year that Phrag Grande was registered. This is such a quiet, diminutive fellow, not surprising to me that in the 18 years now that I've been growing phrags, this is the first one I have come upon in bloom, let along the first time I've had one. Got it recently from a lady in England who needed more space in her overcrowded greenhouse.

The petals of caricinum tend to drop down more, like with pearcei. So the longifolium influence that is most apparent to my eye is the petals going out as they do, almost the angle you see with longifolium.

As to the red colour of the stem, that won't be due to the water I use, as I only just bought this plant 2 months ago.
