I thing the pouch is very cool:

This is Phrag. Demetria's pouch, by comparison:

Very nice flower. The pouch is nicely marked, thanks mostly to the Demetria I would think.

Lovely photos as usual. You do manage to pack an astounding amount of three dimensional character into these 2D images.

Really nice twist to the green theme Dot. Now if I can add an observation on these flowers related to another thread on sunken areas of the leaves you posted. I notice the dorsals and synsepals didn't extend out to completion on these flowers and think its for the same reasons, hot, dry (or dryer) conditions along with fast flower growth or development. What do you think?

Hmmm --

The spotting is only on the Demetria plant, not the Demetria x wallisii. This is the first time Demetria x wallisii has bloomed, so I don't really know whether the droopiness is genetic or cultural. It has been hot in the greenhouse for the past couple weeks, and with the long-petaled varieties, although almost all of them are in bloom, the flowers aren't lasting as long as they normally do.

With the brown spotting on Demetria, that's been there since I purchased the plant, so I don't think the heat has any bearing on that problem.

But certainly it does on the blooming right now. The good thing is that it's cooler now, and nights (as well as days) are going to be quite reasonable for the next week or so. So hopefully, the flowers will be better as they continue to open.

Oh yes, I remember that thread now. I still like the soft pastels on your flower. Not necessarily better than mine, but I wouldn't mind having them both!
I agree! Certainly does demonstrate how variable this cross can be, seems there's no in between on what we have!
