This is a Chuck Acker cross that I believe I’ve been growing out since 2014. I did loose the tag in this guy so more than likely this is the case. This is a first bloom seedling with fantastic color and decent shape. I’m hoping the first bloom blues will work themselves out in future efforts.

It’s kovachii season here in Baltimore, I have 5 in spike or bloom atm.. they seem to bloom for me in December, right around the holidays.

I hope everyone is well, happy holidays.

Enjoy.

Wow! They are fantastic! It is a huge accomplishment to raise them from small seedlings! Congrats!
What is the PH of your water/growing medium?
TY. I’m actually not sure about my ph. I don’t trust my meter and have not calibrated it in years. When I first started using it I believe the ph was around 6-6.5. I do use RO water with 50-100ppm balanced fert, tapering down in the cooler months. I also flush with straight RO every other day.

Love the color.

How do you grow them? Still have not successfully bloomed mine.
I grow mine in rockwool, with some styrofoam peanuts at the bottom in a 1 gallon net pot. I add crushed / powder oyster shells once a month and I have bits of moss that I seed patches of on the top of the media. I notice that once the moss starts to grow and take over, the plants start to really thrive. I water with RO and a balanced fert year round.

If they are growing and continue to grow healthy roots and new growths, it really seems to be a waiting game. It seems to be a 10 year haul from seedlings.. at least for the seedlings from flasks I have invested in over the years.. hopefully line breeding has shortened this window.

Patience... And some oyster shell. Mine took forever to bloom the first time, now I have two or three clones that are pretty reliable. Just heard from the lab that my selfing had good germination, not sure how long it takes to get flasks back but I'll have more. :) Maybe I'll live long enough to see some bloom.

Very nice. I got a flask of Peruvian Dream x Peruvian Love from Chuck, but that was Feb this year and theyre still in a compot, so different batch. Taking notes on the rockwool and oyster shell.

Edit: Look at those grandaddy Vandas! They look well fed
