Thanks for supplying such lovely seedlings Michael. With my plant breeders hat on I thought that they’d be worth growing as soon as I saw them offered. They’ve exceeded my expectations! It really is a wonderful cross with so many good seedlings.
When they’re all grown up I’d like to do a table at a show with just the elite seedlings.

Plant breeder? Of what? I did a Master's degree in cereal breeding at McGill.

We seem to have reached a natural pause in flowering. Just clone 2 is open and two others are in spike. Most of the rest are working on their next growth.
So far, there are 8 keepers. Six from this last autumn’s flowering and two from the first one. These two both blasted their spikes this time round, one due to my clumsiness and the other, who knows?
Six have already gone to new homes, having bloomed and found wanting.
Two more are ‘ in the balance’ after flowering and I will probably bloom them again before making a decision.
This still leaves another ten that have not yet flowered. Three of these spiked but didn’t make it to flowering due to either blasting or me and my big feet.
Of the remaining seven, two are in low spike and may bloom in the spring. I have no supplementary lighting at this time of year so blasting is also a possibility. That leaves five that still have not spiked. They’re all smaller plants, but as we know, some of the best clones can come from the slow ones so they’re not going anywhere yet. They are all plenty big enough to bloom after another cycle of growth.

And just because it’s Christmas, here are the eight keepers…..
1. This I’ve named ‘KV’ as it the biggest at 14cm.

It blasted the spike this year, this is a first flowering from last year on a single growth.
This one I’ve called ‘CP’ (clear pink). I injured this year’s spike and it died.

Now the six from this year..
Clone 12.

Clone 11, the climber.

Clone 10, I’ve named ‘St Ives’, probably the best one so far.

Clone 8.

And finally clone 2.

So 16 flowered and 8 kept. An excellent ratio of success! Still 10 more to bloom so there maybe another 5 keepers amongst those.
I missed out clone 13, the one with upswept petals. I don’t particularly like this trait but the flowers have good colour, are flat and it branches well.
