This is the second year phrag Pink Fire x (kovachii x Living Fire) has started the sheath but no spike emerges...sheath dies :(
First year I can understand, it's getting established..but this year..same thing. Why ??? Never had this to happen with a Phrag.

Very interesting Gilda. I have a Fritz that keeps sending
up buds that do nothing... they don't dry out or rot, but they don't continue to blooming. I think I'm just going to
cut the spike and wait for the next new growth...or get
really pissed and pitch it out. I think it's just an inferior
plant because my other Phrags. are blooming and doing
very well.

The PK curse!

I can get sheaths like mad and they result in 0.0 flowers. After four seasons growing a blooming size PK, now I have a 10 growth plant with four dead sheaths and 6 new growths. I'm told its all about temps with PK and PK hybrids.

I am with Tyler, temperature is the key for PK and some Pk hybrids. Not the average temperature but the day /night amplitude. They need a huge amplitude. My nights are around 12C and maximum during the day is about 30C all year around. The kovachii and hybrids are doing it really fine. Another key factor is high light levels I mean close to Cattleya light levels for at least 3-4h/day and more "normal" Phrag levels for the other 8h
