caricinum x warscewiczianum

I got this as a small seedling from White River Orchids several years ago. This is the first bloom.

Hi Dot ,
Nice going Can't beat the color or petal length for a compact Phrag. such as this

Ray

...It's nice, but needs some colour....

Why ?????
These green-brownish long petalled flowers have got their own charm. More colour wouldn't really suit to them - just my opinion.
It's a great photo Dot - as always. You were right when you wrote in another thread ' a camera is a camera' - I couldn't more agree.

Best regards from Germany, rudolf.

I do agree that these have their own charm, and I have a few, but I would like to see more long-petaled ones crossed with sargentianum or shlimii, to give some colour. When you say more colour wouldn't suit, what do you think of Belle Hougue Point?

Those crosses might have been made. If the hybridizers didn't like the outcome, they may not have pursued it. Some may even play a guessing game as to what is or will be appealing to the hobbyist/consumer. I think there's too many long petaled pinks, they're all looking alike.
Take besseae out of the parentage of BHP and what color would it be?
Hmmm .... if a bess flavum was used, what would BHP look like? Would the yellow carry thru?

Actually for a non-[I forget the family of besseae/schlimii/fischeri] phrag it's pretty colorful.
AND, while I'm always happy to see the whole plant, I think it would be deceptive to not show something for reference. Otherwise how many of us would not avoided having gigantic green phrags that we can't reach the top of in our collections!? :poke:

Dot that is just beautiful. I don't care much for the short petaled Phrags but love the long petaled ones....this one is drool worthy and I will look for one to add to my collection. Thanks!

Dot, have any more of the buds opened? It looks like there was at least one more.
I hope you don't think that I don't like your plant - I do. I have Grande and Betheva, but both are new, so I haven't seen the flowers yet. I also have caricinum, and have pearcei and wallisii on order from Ecuagenera. My focus right now is to get colourful, long-petaled ones, but I like all Phrags.

It's not bad and Eric would say 'Yay besseae hybrids!' :)
But if I really had to choose I would unhesitatingly favour Dot's Phrag Meditation !!
Best regards from Germany, rudolf
