Phragmipedium Tupac Amaru (Peruflora's Cirila Alca x kovachii) is hardly different from my Fritz Schomburg. She is said to come from American elite breeding, but I expected more. 13cm wide.
Thank you for sharing. There are not many pictures of Tupac Amaru out there. Maybe because of the similarities with Fritz Schomburg and Peruflora's Cirila Alca.
Those of you who know me and my articles on the genus will know that I am going to tell you that many Phrag hybrid names are the same thing. The strong similarities with other hybrids is because they are the same thing. Of course, there are subtle differences in color and flower quality based on the parents. We all need to peel back the onion so to speak to understand what we are looking at.
A question for @rauhaariger, if you know, I am curious to know who is behind this "American elite breeding". Not because I don't like the flower, I do, it's an exceptional plant. I am curious to know who in the US is now representing themselves to be "elite" Phrag. breeders.
Yes, it is the first bloom, so there is legitimate hope. No, I don't know the parents or the nursery where it comes from. I'm currently in the process of researching this.
