I didn't buy one, actually. I just realized that my wife's Olympus FE-210/X-775 had a nighttime mode and partial manual exposure controls which would allow me to photograph on black without overexposing the blooms. It's also several Mps better resolution, and does macro almost as well as my camera.

Someday I'll get a serious camera. But these mid-level digital point-and-shoots really are good enough now to get excellent results.

What species is the Cory?

I got one recently from Troy that is doing well (but I need to repot it soon).

There's also further info on the flickr pages for each of the above.

This one is Cory. macrantha. I got it from Oak Hill. They sent it with two spikes, but it showed up right before I left town for five days, and I guessed wrong on its conditions. I put it someplace too wet, and the spikes were blasted by the time I got back.

Luckily, it immediately initiated two more spikes!

Cool, that's the species I got too. What is the largest leaf size or leaf span of an adult growth. My plant is probably a year off from blooming, but adding growths and leaves fairly quick like a Gongora. The largest leaf span (about 10-12 inches) is on a new growth that hasn't even developed a pseudobulb yet.

The mature leaves on mine aren't more than 15", which I think is consistent with yours setting a spike next season. (I think they pretty much only bloom in the summer, right?)

I'm super excited. I'm thinking about taking another bud photo tomorrow. Maybe I'll do a progression thread.

I haven't really checked on the normal blooming season for Cory's, but this is exciting. These are large crazy flowers that do things pretty fast.

Please do! Very cool looking flower.
