Hi,

I recently stumbled upon these photos http://www.shenliu.idv.tw/Hybrids-22-rothsType-lowiicross.htm and was instantly infected by the "must have" syndrome that sometimes affects orchid growers... Both In-Charm lady Spence (Lady Isabel x Jerry Spence) and Saint Speratus (Saint Swithin x Jerry Spence) fits my tastes perfectly.

So, where to find these (or at least In-Charm Lady Spence)? In-Charm is a Taiwanese nursery, but they have an old homepage and does not respond to e-mails so I do not know if they are still operating and to what European vendors they export to. Anyone have any clue about this?

Anyone know if these crosses have been made outside Taiwan, or have seen them offered at some nursery in the past?

In-Charm is indeed a large orchid grower, and they are still in business. I'm sure that they are busy that's why they didn't respond to you. Also as you stated the web site is not updated. I however don't know where you can get those cross in Europe. I would just contact some of the largest European vendors and see where that leads you.

I would talk to Sam Tsui or even Popow about this. The more complex Multiflorals are always a long shot here in Europe, but....they are around and can be found.
Anouther smaller vendor is Elsner Orchids in Germany, they sometimes buy up smaller batches as "show-left-overs".

If you are able to order from Canada, then try Crystal Star Orchids.

Their website has an up to date listing of In-Charm paphs that you can order from Crystal Star. They will be doing a large custom order from In-Charm this spring

I ordered my In-Charm plants from them last year and picked them up at a local show. The plants were very large with excellent roots and many were crosses unavailable elsewhere. In fact, I immediately palced another a week ago when they advised that they were dealing with In-Charm again this year. The website will explain how to order and the cost etc.

If you email Crystal Star, it may take a bit for them to reply as I know that the owners are in Taiwan at a paph show this week......

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tips. I will e-mail Sam Tsui as I am already ordering some plants from him when he comes over to Europe. I will also try Popow and Elsner.

Unfortunately, an order from Canada is not feasible. It will be too costly. But it is good to know that In-Charm is exporting! I browsed their list at Crystal Star Orchids but did not find the crosses for sale. However, In-Charm Lady Spence were used in a cross so it is still around at their nursery. I will see if any European vendors are importing from them.

WOW! If I had only known, I had both of those plants in bloom last May, I could have made that cross and I could be sending you some babies, well maybe this year I'll give it a try, here are my plants.... Jim.
1. St Swithin.
2. Jerry Spence.

Hi,
In Charm are regular visitors to the Peterborough International Orchid Show held in June in the UK. I have made orders for the last 2 years and they have brought them across so I could collect them from the show. I can confirm that they are good quality plants and the ones that I have lost are being replaced in June when they will be at the show again. They are a very large nursery and can take a while to reply, but keep sending them emails to see if they could could arrange postage either from the UK or within the europe should they stop off there.

Just an update!

Today I received a package from In-Charm Nurseries with my wanted plants. They did reply after a while, and we managed to arrange so that they sent the plants to me when they visited Peterborough Int. Orchid Show (thanks for the tips Gary!). A few other goodies also managed to slip into the order...

My haul:
Paph. In-Charm Lady Spence
Paph. Saint Spearatus
Paph. Jerry Spence (Berenice '3759A' × rothschildianum 'Nan')
Paph. Lady Isabel '2153' x Paph. Greyi 'In-Charm'
Paph. wilhelminiae var gardineri 'val' x self

Nice plants, although the Jerry Spence plant looked a bit stressed from the transport. Probably due to an already quite poor root-system.
