Hi

I know I have been off the forum for a bit, but heres something new. Spathoglottis hardingiana from Thailand.

I have succeeded in getting my one plant of this Spathoglottis to spike and it is only a day or two from opening. It is rare even here in Thailand as it is a cooler growing species. I have it in my wardian case at 23c constantly and 90% humidity. It seems to love it and is in live moss.

I will self it and I expect they take the same time as all spathos - 30 to 45 days. I pray I get it to grow in flask as it took me 2 years just to find one plant. Locals tend to treat it like all Spathos - they grow it hot. Well thats a death wish for this species. As far as I know, it is from very humid, almost cloud forest areas in Thailand.

This species is very delicate in growth compared to hot growers such as plicata.

swan like spathoglottis

hi Brett,
if my memory serves me right , it comes from the cloud Forrest mountains
in Southern Thailand .
I had a couple of plants a few years ago, i was growing them in my farm in
Northern Thailand 1hr away from Chiang mai at 700 mtrs altitude
i bought from some collector at the ' talaad tjed wan ' near Chatuchak
market, i haven't seen it around for quite a few years, so congrats on
obtaining one recently
I read in your post you're planning to flask it , if you're successful, keep me in
mind for some flasks .

Hi Tom, cliokchi, Eric

YEs, I will post pics once open. It can only be days away.

I do intend to flask it. I hope that it grows as easily as selfings of other spathos. I am still looking for more plants of this. I have been asking a long time, but no luck. It seems that most people I know trying to grow it in the past kept it hot and they all failed. It seems to like the wardian case under t5 lights

If I succeed in making flasks, I will let you know

So much TLC :) Seems like a very cosy environment it is growing in.
I like spathos too! But just grow a few species and a couple NOID hybrids. Thanks for sharing the photos and the link too.

I dont know why, maybe it is the way the petals etc dont reflex evenly, but this blook makes me think of an old boozer having a stretch hahha.. Maybe its the yawning lip and column. a bit abstract I know..

Yes, I like this plant a lot. Its quite interesting.

I have tried to self it. Lets see if the pods take. I have at least 13 more buds to open. They seem to open in succession.

I suspect looking at the column that it is pollenated by an ant or wasp, but I am not an expert on this

hi Bratt,

beautiful flowers , was really worth the long wait !
hope you're successful in flasking it

Hi Cliokchi

I will let you know if I manage. I have three pods now and just pollenated the four blooms in the photo. Fingers crossed I get them to grow in flask given this is a selfing.

I am meant to get 4 more plants this weekend. I hope they are as nice. Sadly, they have bloomed already.

My plant seems very happy at 25c and high humidity in the wardian case.

Brett
