These seedlings were barely there,no roots and struggling. Now they are trying to beat the sphagnum moss and all putting out a great roots in their community tray.

What a wonderful sphagnum garden! never were able to grow it that good...Just do not forget the paphs, they get easily lost:p

Dot- I started out with sheet moss mixed in the medium, they were tagging along without new roots so I decided to add on live sphag as an icing and that really help them.
They remind me some of my dogs turning up their noses to their breakfasts until a good eater comes along then it is a gobbling up match so I suppose they feel little competition there.

Of course I had to remind them about that moss looking far superior to all you little losers.:D

This is a niveum piece that had only 1 leaf and no roots, vendor told me the whole basket had died and he was throwing it away. I asked him if I can take that little side shoot,he shrugged and said to help myself and this was couple of weeks before Christmas.

I also bought this lowii seedling in a compot of 2.

They are kept in a constantly moist and warm environment. I'm really surprised niveum actually survived and thriving under this condition.

Dot,

Moss from that link may seem little hefty but it comes packed tight in a gallon bag,I divide them immediately into 2.5 gallon (jumbo) baggies in a single layer then place them under the grow lights. They multiply like tribbles (Star Trek fan here).:rollhappy:

Phrags love the moss just as much if not more.

Hmm
How much and often do you water paphs and phrags in the live moss? (Under lights?)

Only the seedlings and live moss are under light, rest are in the greenhouse.
During winter months paphs gets watered once a week but I do mist the moss with RO water, phrags are watered every 3 days and are also misted daily (just the moss part). At nights I turn on the humidifier until it reaches around 80% humidity and once a month all gets the yucky yellow (Mancozeb + Cleary's 3333 mixture) treatment.
