Thanks for the info. I don't have numbers but can say the lighting for my phrags is a little less than cattleya lighting. Cattleyas are grown (and bloom) near the center of my light stand, where the light is most intense. Phrags grow on the edges where it is a little less intense.
Thanks! It's grown S/H-style in LECA-type medium. I used LED grow lights about 12 hours per day and mist about three times daily. Temperatures never get above 75 or so. Reverse osmosis water with MSU fertilizer diluted about 1/4 to 1/2 strength.
I'd focus on growing the plant well. Phrags with besseae influence like pure water with light fertilizer and like to stay fairly wet. Good humidity and air movement. Slightly less than cattleya level light. Some try to grow out of the pot so if that happens repot them. Focus on improving...
I really like seeing the variation in these! Definitely some that are standing out as the best but all are great in their own way. Nice job growing them. And thanks for posting photos for us to see.
Not the best form but it's blooming very well. The five flowers open are on a single spike.
I got this as a tiny plant from Piping Rock Orchids back in about 2006. It was one of the first few kovachii hybrids available.
Seems like there are less fewer and less fewer vendors to buy from anymore. (Fixed by the grammar police)
I haven't bought anything from Ecugenera in the past few years but I don't know that I've ever received anything mislabeled.
One place I've bought several plants within the past five...
Most phrags I grow have besseae in the background. Because many of those have an annoying habit of growing upward, I like taller pots to accommodate that better.
