    First-Time Pod advice

What is the pod, and when did you make the cross (or is it a spontaneous pod) Sowing yourself is fairly simple.

Paph Shun-Fa Golden 'Chunky' X Ice Castle 'Ice Pepper'

Very nice indeed. I don't think that the dorsal is small, rather that the lateral segments are so large! It would be nice to see a group of these in bloom, lots of potential here for next generation breeding!

    Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum in situ

A spectacular habitat picture! Some very good broad and strong coloured clones there. I would imagine the long lasting nature of the blooms contributes to their chance of pollination and so the greater number of seedlings and colony formation. Do you see a many wild pods on the plants that you...

    Paph. dayanum

A cheerful looking bloom. Two good healthy looking plants. Where did you get them, if I may ask?

    Paph Maudiae 'Hauser'

Wow, that is tops! Beautiful well shaped and unblemished blooms held easily on strong tall spikes. Surprisingly narrow leaves for a Maudiae. One of those hybrids which not only combines the best characteristics of both parents, but accentuates those features. Great clone, congratulations!

    Paphiopedilum canhii in the wild

A sad progression to the thread. I work and live within a conservation environment in Africa. The sad reality within 3rd world countries is that if it can't pay its way it has little value. That is a concept which is very difficult to come to grips with in a developed and stable economy within...
