Live sphagnum produces a low pH that fungi and bacteria don´t like, it is antibiotic.
But never forget to change your sphagnum at least after 2 years. It will compact and rot at the bottom and than the roots will "suffocate".
Perhaps this effect it related to the temperature?
I got a Phal last year at which the flowers on 2 stems were perloric but on the 3rd one regular. This year all glowers were peloric.
Here you can find some pictures of the current exhibition. I only picked up a few pictures of more than 1000 plants. There were too many people there und the light was bad (raining day), so I had to use flash for all pictures.

I made some pictures of my blooming Phalaenopsis Timothy Christopher x Gelbliber and put them in motion using a morph software. My first work so it´s not perfect.

It´s the same plant under different light. First picture with shaded light, second with indirect sunlight (at different days). For both I used a gray panel to adjust the colors.
Isn´t it amazing how the colors differs depending on the light source?
