    A 3rd new specie

With origin on Java it does not overlap with any of the species mentioned here. Not even close. Nor with any other Barbata/Sigmatopetalum species but Paph javanicum apparently. Geographic isolation on a island distant from similar species is enough reason to define a presumptive new species...

My First Ho Chi Minh in bud at long last!

HCM can have notoriously short-lived flowers, but not all clones. Hope you have a good one, but take pictures any pictures you want in the first few days or it may be too late.

    Vandachostylis Rainbow Stars (Neofinetia Benihime)

Darwinara was Ascocentrum x Neofinetia x Rhynchostylis x Vanda. If Neo and Asco are Vanda, then Vandachostylis. I think it is safe to say that no natural Neo has that color, so the non-Neo contribution is pretty obvious. It is 3/4 Neo and 1/16 Rhyncho, so I wouldn't expect to see much...

    Masdevallia Cassiope 'K'

That's the kind of thing that sometimes tempts me to succumb to the siren song of Masdevallia.

    Maudiae Paph

It is essentially just an elongation of the usually very short, hidden within the leaves, vertical stem. Functionally, since it produces roots and could be detached to propagate the plant it IS a keiki.

    Your thoughts on this fertilizer

My views on fertilizer are often seen as heresy. Until you have perfected almost every other aspect of orchid culture, fertilizer will never be the limiting factor to your success if you grow in plant based non-inert media and do use a fertilizer that includes the most important micronutrients...

    Just an inquiry...

Plant Delights Nursery always has the best selection of Arisaema, but that one is just plain ugly.

    Paph ciliolare Pink13

Definitely touched with pink compared to the usual. Nice tall stem too.

    Paph Red Illuison

The name reflects the parentage (Grand Illusions x Red Star) rather than the color. This is a fairly typical palette for the grex. Compact. Clumping growth. Handsome flowers. What's not to love?

    Paphiopedilum gigantifolium

That's a more appealing flower than other pics I've seen - good color, lots of character.

    NOID sp???

I'm not sure Paph armeniacum has ever been found in Vietnam, usually listed just in Yunnan Province, perhaps into Myanmar. This flower would be small for that species, with proportionally large staminode and small pouch. Perhaps an under-developed bud opened by hand? (a premie as troy...

    Paph Grand Poense 'Chocolate Cheetah'

'Chocolate Cheetah' is perfect, Grand Poense is terrible, the flower is incredible.

    Are orchid vendors deceptive?

In many cases when a seller says the picture is representative and the best plant available will be sent, it means just that. They may have 50 or 200 such plants. Rather than giving a picture of the one that is in flower now and sending that plant as the flowers are fading they use it as an...

    Are orchid vendors deceptive?

Most mass market orchids in bud or flower come with instructions that should keep them alive long enough to enjoy the flowers for a few weeks. Beyond that most people do throw them away, and yes, that is part of the business model for those flowering plants. Those big box and grocery store...

    Just an inquiry...

Current female senate Democrats that might be viable candidates - Stabenow, Shaheen, Gilibrand, Baldwin (that would make some conservative heads explode). At least a couple of other former officials that would be well qualified - Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sibelius. But if any are interested...

I like it, but FAR too subtle for the ones who need to understand it to get the point.

Paph. x fanaticum 'Fox Valley' AM/AOS

I think that is quite special, and even more so as an example of the natural hybrid rather than the man-made version. Have you done any breeding with this?

    Just an inquiry...

Seems to me that anyone that sensitive wouldn't maintain long term interest in politics unless everything goes their way. Such people are really of no benefit to a political party.

    Paph Pulsar X Macabre

Paph Hsinying Macasar. This more strongly resembles the Pulsar parent, though the intense color may come partly from Macabre.

Nothing against Ellison, but this has to be a job that one can give 100 hours a week to when needed, and he already has one of those. You need a competent full time manager to run the party every day. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was a disaster because she was neither full time nor a competent...
