Here is a first bloom seedling of Aerangis splendida that I picked up back in 2007 from Hoosiers. For its first bloom it put out 3 inflorescences, I hope this pattern continues for future bloomings. It has a light but heavenly floral night fragrance, a bit like Datura or Gardenia.:) The old gold shading to petal and sepal tips is just really hard to capture, so I did both flash and room light. The results don't quite capture the subtle beauty, but you can get an idea. This has now replaced Aerangis modesta as my favorite Aerangis, but any Aerangis in bloom has a good chance of becoming my favorite. I knocked a couple buds off, so I did not send it to AOS judging. :sob:

It has overgrown a 3.5 inch pot, in medium bark mix. When I repotted I deliberately did not plant the crown deep, I let the stem drape over the edge. It sits on the edge of the bench where the breeze from the fan is a little stronger. It is next to a Paph philippinense and Paph praestans, so the light and watering schedule is the same as for the Paphs. So far a slow growing but otherwise trouble free plant. :D

If anyone out there has pollen of Aerangis splendida, I would like to do the species outcross. I will also self this plant, it would be nice to see more of these around. Likewise, I have more pollen than I will use this year, if anyone wants pollen send me a PM or an email.
