and the runt of runts. And it bloomed this year.
Whiter flower than the other two.











Last month when the weather was nice, I put everything out on the deck for a rain storm.
The wind blew over the other two taller plants, and the flowers got damaged...........
And then turned brown................
Yes I am pissed.

Clark, don't call the plants names if they're blooming. Save the nasty names for unbloomed plants. It's an altogether better strategy. You have a lovely white flower...be grateful or at least mannerly to it.

When these are outside, from lets say 2nd week of May to 3rd week of Oct., I use 2gallon pressure sprayer.
I don't care what time of day or where the water goes- I hammer them just like Phrag. longifolium.
Yes, they dry out quick(I live near the water, always breeze).

Inside the house, no way I am using sprayer around the curtains(dry clean only). So I am dunking them in something that looks like kitchen garbage can, just like Phrag longifolium.
(another reason for the photos at time, the nectary is submerged 3-4" and I don't know if it will discolor)
Yes, the sphag floats out. I scoop it up and throw back in the pot.


When I bought didieri, vendor warned my about too much water.
When I bought plug tray of sesquipedale I thought I read not to let this one dry out.
Just now I see one place in Madagascar gets 3.5 meters of rain per year. But rainfall amount varies around the island.

At my place, sesquipedale did not do well in bark with a little CHC.
Bjorn, in a nutshell, no problems being wet most of the time.

Let me add-
I grow these bright. Behind double pane/thermal pane glass, full sun. Except after flower opens up. No bright light for flower. Flower got brown quick in sun.

I use Klite. A teaspoon is good for five gallons at my home.
Another note about putting these out in the rain, they are very susceptible to hail damage.
They have gone down as low as 55F. while the spike was forming.
I think mine have set back when we have 95F. and above(August is hot).

For two days in a row with spike.
I bring them in around Halloween.
If it rains, they go outside on the deck(benefit of small collection). Then back to windowsill.
We had some warm temps for December, and everything went outside. The wind killed me. The Runt didn't tip over and roll around.
Our thermostat for the house is set at 64F. for night time. So this is the more frequent night temperature. Maybe 68F. during day.
The clay pots are in sunny window and they get warm.

I think drying out is the biggest sin.

The flower is larger than sibs. But the nectary is shorter than sibs.

Behind thermal pane glass and wide open mini blinds on south side.
Nice and bright. In the summer outside, they can take the morning full sun.
As long as they stay wet. These don't dry out, I water every day outside.
