I don't think so. I rather assume the bird tried to get something that had fallen into the pitcher ... but of course, one can't fully rule out some man made "joke".

I wonder if we could breed a bigger pitcher plant, one big enough that could feed on dumb politicians. :evil:

Nepenthes truncata, rajah and merrilliana are known to occasionally catch big prey such as rodents, both in the wild and captivity. This is the first time I've heard of birds being prey to CPs though...
 
Definitely a European bird. I remember my biogeography professor declaring "There are no tits in America!"

That would deserve the Nobel Prize ... we have plenty of food for such a plant in Berlin and in our state-capitals as well as in our city governments.
