Question: What exactly is the difference between concolor var. wagnieri and the normal type..? Thx... :)

Not entirely sure, the plant originally came from RJ Rands back in the 70s and he was known for adding variety names and such to differentiate plants. I'm guessing the leaves are the main difference, and the flowers are smaller and deeper yellow than typical concolor and usually multifloral with 2 or 3 per spike. I'm pretty sure most taxonomists don't consider the name valid, but I keep it on the tag to trace it's history more than anything.

OK so now I had to go check out my concolor v. chlorophyllum from Fox Valley. It's more blotchy shrubby looking, certainly not the clarity of the first one!

Great leaves - love the pattern!! I was just saying the other day that mottle-leafed Paph were perfect even out of bloom, as you didn't have to hide them away as soon as the flowers drop.

I will buy a Paph based only on its leaf pattern. (But then I may have picked up that habit from collecting Neos....:rollhappy:)

I don't have any concolors, first of all there are so many varieties and I want different ones, especially the one with the dots in line patterns!! Also they're really not easy to find around here. I like the foliage on superbiens v. curtsii, Ho Chi Mihn, venustum album, etc..

Thx 4 d clarification, Jon... :)

Rose, Ernie said mine looked exactly like his chlorophyllum, all we need is Ernie to post a pic of his plant to compare. The pics from Jon in SW show the shrubbery.
Post your plant also please.

Wonderful. I certainly would not be able to walk past either of those if I saw them for sale. I also have bought plants based on the leaf patterns alone : I have four varieties of bullenianum, three of which I bought for their leaf patterns. At the Peterborough show I saw two dayanums for sale with very beautiful leaves but managed to resist (no space and will be moving home).

Cheers,
Tim

I will - it's in bud & should be open in 2-3 days!

See Tim, now you'll never have the opportunity to get those plants again! Next time just buy them, it would be for the best!

How many extra planes will you need to charter along the way to carry plants and flasks you acquire?
