Someday I'll be like the rest of you experienced growers posting pictures once something is fully open. But I'm too excited to do that this time, because after about a year and a half of being into slipper orchids, I'm getting my first phrag bloom!
This is Phrag Eric Young (1/2 flava) from Orchids Ltd. It's my only phrag sheath that made it through the recent thrips debacle, which you can see evidence of on the sheath and other areas.
My only concern at this point is that it is still a single growth. I'm trusting that it will push a growth during or after this bloom cycle, but I'm also not opposed to trimming the bloom early to help the plant out. It does have an excellent root system.

Excited for you.

This is what these look like when they bloom. We are seeing a range of the red color. BTW they are made with longifolium album not the yellow besseae.

Congrats! You're in the USA, if you're looking for more Phrags, let me know. I'm in the process of downsizing my collection, and given that about 1/3rd of my orchids are Phrags, I'm certain there's gonna be a few that need to find new homes in the coming future. I'm taking a break from getting rid of things for now, but once the weather starts to warm up in the spring, stuff has to go.
