P.charlesworthii is very dominant. I think it does tend to open up the flower shapes when it is crossed with complex hybrids. It also reduces size and is being used to make miniature complex paphs. This grex (charlesworthii x Via Avila Beach) was made by Norris Powell, probably with the idea of breeding compacts or miniatures. There is a lot of variability in the plants, some flowers are more open and smaller than others. I wonder what species are in the background of Via Avila Beach?
