Welcome! I think you'll find that a few of us got our starts growing in dorm rooms, myself included (about 4 years ago). There's always a way to make it work.

Indeed, I remember a plant of Oncidium undulatum I had growing on the window ledge of my 12th floor dorm at the University of Miami. One day I came back from class and it was gone. A survey of the shrubs below produced the plant, which was mounted on a stick, in perfect condition. Orchids fly better than you think!

Hi from OK! :D I'm originally from SD, and when I left for ND for my undergrad I had my dad build a special shelf that would fit under my dorm loft bed! You become really popular if you're the only freshman in the dorm to have a Paph Addicted Phillip blooming on your desk (ok, so maybe you become the dorm freak in some people's minds, but I'm fine with that :rollhappy: ) It worked great, but going home for Christmas and moving for the summer to a different dorm was always a production - always worth it though, and fewer casualties than you'd think. I upgraded to a larger light stand when I moved to TX for my master's in plant breeding and genetics, and now I have my own house and the it's expanding again! I think this forum spreads orchid fever virus well enough to almost guarantee a greenhouse at some point in the future though, so as others have said, don't hesitate to ask questions to learn, even if you're just referred to an old thread for part or all of the answer!
