Karsten, don't worry ... it's just a presumption, nothing more.
I don't worry. But these quick shots ("I am pretty sure") because of a leaf pattern in such a large variety is a bit - strange. šŸ˜¶
It's almost as if someone thinks that because sangii is rare and I start a thread about it that I'm ā€œproudā€ of it and someone would have to counter that with an argument. People seem to be like that sometimes here.

Yes both javanicum and sangii have a wide range of leave pattern. But i havent ever seen a sangii with such thin stripes as pattern like your plant have it. But some javanicum types have it. I am pretty sure, but of course perhaps i am wrong in the end. The flower will show us the truth. ;)
Another reason to be javanicum is that it established easy šŸ˜†
I have yet to see a Paph that would be difficult to establish under the culture conditions I can offer. But I don't know why these are good or what others lack. Its pure random. But thanks for the tip with the javanicum, Martin. It's still possible - but of course I hope not.
I am still curious. Seems the suspense will remain until the end. šŸ˜„ ...and until then I still don't know if it's an ugly specimen of a sangii.

The price was absolutely fine, even for a javanicum. In this respect, no loss. But it's a shame, because I find the flowers of the javanicum ugly and especially those of the sangii so fascinating.

I'm not interested in rarity. It's a pity that sangii are so rare because they look so beautiful.

Good save! and it really has bounced back nicely.
I just saw one on Ebay(U.S) for $120( I guess it is legal in the U.S. now?). What is its price tag in Germany?

If its a real P. sangii, which some people here doubt. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
The only source of supply from our neighboring country the Netherlands costs ā‚¬160 for a young plant. This one was available "under the table" at the Dresden Show for ā‚¬45. Either someone wanted to get rid of his perishable goods quickly (when my friend got it it looked like it wouldn't make it) or he had a P. javanicum left over that he made look like it had been taken out of the jungle to earn a few more euros.

Have already looked around but Kelpak is not available in Germany. Theres a huge amount of algae powder and algae fertilizer. I am confused as to which product is suitable - the one with the algae "Ascophyllum nodosum"? They use that in Maxicrop which of course isn't available here - and in what dosage...

Kelpak is sell by Besgrow Netherlands. Good luck

Youā€™re thinking what Iā€™m thinking: the leaves just donā€™t look right.
I had given him the example that 'Martin' was of the opinion it was not P. sangii. That's what he was referring to.
An acquaintance told me that he had already received such plants from the same source and that they later turned out to be P. sangii. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø I'm also excited to see what awaits me.

Any update on this plant?

Tom, he was last seen here at August 20th last year !
I saw that in his profile also before I posted... but I am hoping he will be back....Last night, through PM, I just heard from a knowledgeable member who had posted here often before he went MIA for months.
I have a sangii now, the leaf color is just as pale as the plant in this thread....some culture tips from actual experience will be appreciated.

Here's a picture of my sangii taken at a show last year. It gives you a good look at the leaves. I've had this plant for nearly ten years and have found it to be fairly easy to grow. (Having said that, it'll probably be dead tomorrow!) It had a little setback a couple years ago when I broke my shoulder and had a difficult time caring for the plants for a few months and the bugs decided to move in but it's back on track now. It likes warm to intermediate conditions and can handle fairly bright light. It grows in a mix of Orchiata, perlite and pumice and is watered twice a week year round. It doesn't like to dry out. During the warmer months or on sunny days I also give it a morning spritz from the spray bottle. Good luck with yours!

Thank you, Lori. At least now I know it is not short-lived. About the watering, hopefully it will be okay when I am away for two weeks ever so often...

You're most welcome. I'm sure you'll figure something out for those times when you're away. Mine did suffer a lot of neglect when I was out of commission with my broken shoulder and it let me know it wasn't happy, but it bounced right back once I got it back into its regular routine. I think they're fairly tough plants.

P. sangii story: I got one from Terry Partin a few years ago. Grew very slowly. A year ago January I had to work out of state for 3 months. I took about 20 orchids with me, things I felt needed extra care; The sangii was due for repotting so I unpotted and put it into a plastic peanut-butter jar for the trip. Somehow, the jar rolled under my couch and I didnā€™t notice until I opened my stuff in the temporary apartment and was perplexedā€¦ well, horrified. Where was it???? How could I have lost it???? At the end of the gig, I came home and another month went by before I pulled the couch out for spring cleaning and lo, there was my sangii in the jar. It had been under the couch for 4 months. And it lookedā€¦ well, a bit pale and one lower leaf died but it was fine. Repotted and been nursing it along. Here it is. Still small but very alive.
