A gift from Barbara F. 2 years ago. When I got it, there was one sheath, that didn't bloom (can still see it); last year a new sheath and now two flowers. Hopefully more flowers next year? The high light pics from yesterday. Other pic this morning.

My fav Cattleya type of orchid is L. Purpurata! Your’s is STUNNING! I especially like the 3 full sun pics! WOW!

Here is a photo of my plant from this specific cross currently in bloom with 5 flowers. Largest flower has gotten up to about 16.5 cm horizontal natural width and I think there might be another cm left to go on a fully mature, healthy plant. I don't know if purpurata can get to 7 flowers on an inflorescence but it would be impressive.

Terry, I do like yours better than mine. I think flamea is more intense. Maybe a trade of divisions is in order to see what we’d get in each other’s growing conditions.

Deb, the issue of growing conditions is important and interesting. However, just the conditions we use to get the photos becomes an issue if we are comparing. Let's try and get good growth this next year and then confer on getting similar lighting and photo conditions for a comparison. I sort of don't have enough space to grow another one of these big purpuratas!
