not easy but can be done....must exactly adjust the thikness of the media so the capillarity takes water 1-2 cm above the top...so surface must be quite dry but a lot of humidity 2 cm above...use a very porous media so a lot of air remains....once a day the water must go of...so the water going out of the pot will soak air from the top of the pot to the media...

Are Mexi's that different culture wise then Paph's or Phrag's in general?

Thanks
Jake

They are weird. At Al's GH in Va you see them growing on a big treefern plaque, covered in moss, but I tried to grow them wet and had a hard time. Now I have them in coarse perlite with bark underneath and they seem to be doing better.

It seems that there are so many ways that these are grown that there really is not a tried and true "this is how it is done" culture technique. Just looking at the in situ pictures, to me they scream for semi-hydro just not as wet as besseae or longifolium per se.

Also brighter light I would assume as well.

I have a bunch of flasks arriving next month and will be keeping a few to grow out (hint hint) and will be growing them under lights at my work. Figured that they will start at 125 um ppf under LED's and then move up to 250 um eventually after grown out for a bit.

When you say "weird' do you mean touchy in regards to over/under watering?

Good luck. I think ebb and flood would mimic nature more. Sounds like Valenzino is describing similar to ebb and flood. They like damp or very humid, and air. I think the reason people here have had success with very shallow pots is that they can be damp and roots near air. I think if roots wet but deep maybe not enough air.
They do grow in a rough deserty environment but from description most plants were up on slope with seeping though a few were found on the ground

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and ideas. Yes my intention is to run an ebb and flow for a batch of seedlings and another group with more "traditional" growing techniques.

I will have +10 extra flasks that will be available if anyone would be interested in purchasing.
