Micranthum Cross

x Mem. Hirohisa Kawai.

I bought two plants 18 months ago. This one made a sheath a couple months before the other one in late spring last year.
They both sat low forever and started working on a new growth.
The sheath eventually just turned brown and died, but the newer growth developed a sheath earlier this past winter, which is open now.

The other plant flowered earlier this year.
They both look the same, except this flower is a lot darker.
I just don't like the shape of pouch on these brachy hybrids.

Will bloom one more time before making a final decision.

I love the color, but are you sure that is the correct cross name?

I think it's pretty, and the color is dark.

I'm with you on the pouch shape, and I've got way too many pink/purple flowers in my collection, so they don't tend to draw my eye much any more. That being said, the concolor base color of the petals is a really nice color contrast to the pinker shades.

That's right. Egg shape. I wish it was more spherical than oval like this.
Oh, well...

Mem. Hirohisa Kawai is mostly bellatulum and then some godefroyae and niveum, I think.
So, yeah, this one looks pretty much like typical of Kevin Porter or Charlie O'Neal.
