I'm new to this website. I'm a member of the Illinois Orchid Society. I live north of Chicago, and last month I had to bring all my orchids indoors for the winter.

I have three Paphs (malipoense, delenati, and a hybrid) and a Phrag "Rosey Gem", all blooming size or close to it. But I also have a hobby of growing orchid seeds in vitro, and I have seedlings of Paph lowii and wardii, and I just planted some Paph venustum. I tried planting Cypripediums, but the seeds never germinated.

Welcome! Did I meet you this past Sunday at the meeting? Did you find SlipperTalk from the business cards I had out? (Wink, wink admins.)

Welcome Jo Ann! I live an hour north of the city, near the state line, where about are you?

Jo Ann writes "I tried planting Cypripediums, but the seeds never germinated" You need to treat with a bleach solution for hours and up to days in order to break the seed outershell down before germination will happen. There are others that may be able to help a lot on this topic. Welcome

Thank you all for the welcome. Yes, I did find this website with a business card that Ernie left at the IOS meeting. I live in Libertyville, between Chicago and Wisconsin. I love my orchids, because when it's so bitterly cold outside, they bring humidity, oxygen, and a general tropical feeling to my home.

Everyone in the area should come to the IOS show "Orchids in the Mist" March 21-22 at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

I'm coming! Saturday I'm going to clerk - look forward to meeting you!
I live in Spring Grove.
