A first blooming of a cross I made 9 years ago. Rothschildianum 'Antisana 97#3' x philpinnense 'donor' (phili pollen from a society member). The roths mother plant is about to re-bloom for the first time since the cross was made.

Good colour and markings, but poor bloom spacing. This plant was grown very bright, so perhaps on a lower light blooming next time round it will improve?

I agree with your assessment....good colour and markings; but, a little more room on the stem would show them off better. Still, there's no doubt it's worth the bench space!

That is a high quality clone Gary. Maybe, on the next blooming put it in deep shade once you see the buds coming up.
Was the roth a single growth when you made the cross?

Thanks all. Yes I am very pleased with this result. I agree that moving the plant to a more shady position one the spike is initiated might result in an improved spike next time round. I also think that more stable humidity might help. My conditions have been very unstable of late and far from ideal.
The colour is very good and the bloom size is very acceptable, and with an improvement in bloom spacing I think it will be more than just 'acceptable'. I don't think that the dorsal needs much improvement (although there I a always room for improvement) as it is pretty flat as it is.
The roths has taken a long time to re bloom, partly as a result of the fact that I nearly killed it with my fertilizer fiasco. But it is back and growing well again.
