You did goooood, friend Eric. The flower is fading rather
fast and I'm a tad shocked. Is this normal for HCM? It's
only been completely open for about a week. Thank you so
much for the assistance.

Yes, they and most Paph. vietnamense here have very short lived blooms. Bob Wellenstein and I went at it a little here on STF because basically he was the only one would legally had it he USA and I think it adversely affected the material used for breeding here. I think Bjorn and others in Europe have plants that bloom much longer.

Longer, but perhaps not much longer. It depends on the weather and temperatures in the greenhouse, but some three weks is not uncommon here, sometime a bit longer. They are not of the longest lived flowers thats right.;)

This photo was taken three days after the bloom was fully
open and you can already see deterioration on the right
petal. However, the foliage is lovely for compensation.
I'm a little saddened about the short bloom period.

right after I take a picture of my plants bloom, I cut the spike then put in water, straight into water, the blooms last a long time

It did. It was a first bloom. Perhaps when it blooms again,
it will last a bit longer. The shortness of bloom might be
due to the sudden rise in temperature here. However,
greenhouse temps. are about the same most of the time...75F-78F high and lows in the 60s.

I've never bloomed HCM that didn't have brown spots by day 5, regardless of conditions. Should be able to improve on that with F2 or F3 breeding, even if the gene pool in the US is limited. Someone get to work on that!
