The cultivar name denotes that this is the first bloom for the half aureum barbigerum cross I did a couple years ago. This is the first step in hopefully producing more vigorous barbigerum fma aureum. Colors are somewhat muddled, but the form is pretty good, so far. The dorsal is a little "hooded", but has not reflexed like some barbigerums. I will try to post another picture in a couple weeks, if the dorsal does reflex. For those who are curious about the time it takes for a cross to come to bloom:
Pollination: 11/3/2005
Seed Harvested: 5/17/2006
First Bloom: 5/7/2009

'Half A', cool name. :) My high school soccer coach would say "half fast". 'Half Aureum' isn't as fun.

Lovely! Quite a big flower compared to the size of the plant too. I hope your breeding programme is successful.

Ross,
Nice start. I'm wondering why your plants always look like you just repotted them in your pics. Such clean media, shiny new pots. Do you clean them you for picture day?:poke:

First flower three years after seed harvest, that's pretty quick for sure.

Actually, I like the flower with its soft colours. Good idea with the line breeding, I hope it'll work.

Best wishes,

I just ran downstairs and checked the tag. The plant was repotted 12/08. Unfortunately, not all my plants are that up to date on repotting. :(
