Got it as an unbloomed seedling from Tom Larkin in 2004 or 2005. Growing in a 3-1/2 inch pot. Barbi's White Satin = barbigerum fma. aureum 'War Eagle' x White Knight.

Lovely white flower with spots...wonderful. I really need
to have this one in my collection. Is Tom Larkin a vendor?
I've heard the name, but don't recall the business if there
is one. Help!

Perfectly symmetrical
Large White dorsal with a few red spots on it which I like most
Flower stem is strong and erect
Except I don't know the natural spread of which the flower is up to

All in all, excellent formation!!!~

I met Tom and his wife Barbara a few years back (2004?), when he came to speak at the Orchid Society of Minnesota. Over the years I purchased many nice divisions from Tom. Knowing my interest in small complexes, Tom sent this one along when I purchased a division of another clone from the same cross. Because of age, Tom and Barbara closed Whippoorwill Orchids a couple years back and scaled back their plant collection. As far as I know, they are still active members of their orchid society down in Arkansas.

Super nice. I don't see a lot of the barbigerum influence though.

He used barbigerum fma aureum, which accounts for the the lack of color. The barbigerum, while having the typically pinched dorsal of the species, is fuller than most. White Knight seems to have dominated the form quite nicely. The barbigerum has given the flower and plant its smaller size and narrower petals.

Lovely flower. I wish it were mine. Is it a good grower?

Yes. The barbigerum fma. aureum itself is a little finicky, but still form clumps of growths and this characteristic was passed on to the Barbi's White Satin. I also have a division of Paph Barbi's White Satin 'Barbara Ann'. It has a nice flower, also, but is a bigger, more vigorous plant.

The size of the plant is relatively compact. I will give you measurements when I get out to the greenhouse,:)

Those are VERY nice, Ross. Awardable, possibly, given the parentage. That is obviously the look you are going for. What's next with these?
