Nice Dollgoldi John. I like the dorsal. Is this the second bloom pictured? I have not seen a second bloom on this kind of breeding better and bigger than the first congrats. How big is the plant and do you know the parents? Thanks

Thanks everybody!

Fantastic John, how many growths?

The plant has 6 growths. One growth tried to bloom last year; but, blasted before the bud even got out of the leaves. Then, there is the growth in bloom now and 4 more unbloomed growths. Also, there are 2 new starts already. I can't wait for this to be big enough to carry multiple spikes at the same time!

Paphioland:

Yes, the first bloom is shown in my thread posted on November 5th. The parents are roth 'Legend' x armeniacum 'Fumi's'.

NYEric.....LOL!

Paph Dollgoldi

I wanted to just add these two photos to my original Dollgoldi thread; but, the forum won't let me edit those posts any more. I didn't want to just add the photos to the back of the thread without being able to update the thread title.

So, I'm starting a new thread. I really wanted to show this. The first flower lasted only 3 weeks. I hadn't expected it to be so short-lived. For a short while, I had both it and the second flower open at the same time.....nice! Even with the first flower gone now, the second bloom is so awesome that it's stands alone quite well. The second bloom is larger and flatter than the first. That's unusual for a later bloom to surpass the quality of the first bloom on a stem.

Hi John,

I remember seeing this one years ago in magazines. I believe it was once offered by Fox Valley orchids. I almost purchased it once myself as I have always though this one a beauty too. Too bad it did not stay in bloom long? Nevertheless it is an exquisite flower and nice photo opt too. Cheers!

That sure is an amazing flower. You should have it judged. Especially if it is 20+ cm. I have all the Paphs in Taiwan books and not one awarded Dollgoldi comes even close to this in size, colour or shape. Yours would have to be an AM minimum. Most of the awarded ones seems to be hovering around the 16 to 17 cm size range.

I finally picked up a Dolgoldi recently. I know it will not be as nice as yours but I'm looking forward to flowering it. It looks to be a good grower as it has new growths popping out everywhere.

Thanks Phrag-man and David. No, I haven't had it judged. 'Didn't realize that it was as good as you indicate. I'll keep that all in mind the next time it blooms. Thanks.

You never know, your new Dollgoldi could be even better! Good luck! It's important to get one that grows vigorously. It doesn't matter how nice the flower is, if the plant grows slowly and only blooms once a decade! I'll look forward to you posting photos of yours when it blooms for you.

John - were the other flowers short-lived as well? Three weeks seems so short. I'm not sure what is normal for this hybrid.

You are right about the vigour being important with this hybrid. For me it is number one. The clone I got is also supposedly very easy to flower. Another important consideration with Dollgoldi.

I've seen one Dolgoldii in person and it is still the most amazing Paph I have seen. Gigantic golden yellow flowers. It is an unbeatable combination.

No. The second and third flower each lasted about 2 months. I don't know what was wrong with the first flower; but, it was not as big or as nicely shaped as the second flower, which is odd. Normally the first flower is always the best. Maybe there was something else physiologically wrong with it that caused it's early fading.

I am not sure which I like better the bloom or the photograph. Heck. Why can't I just love them both. Congrats!
