Okay here is the first one....Paph Fumimasa Sugiyama (sanderianum x platyphyllum). I'm going to take this to the Toronto Judging Centre on Saturday. What are the opinions on this....does anyone think it has a chance of being pointed? I like it but then I'm biased. I also have the measurements and description for the other three awarded clones and this one seems comparable.

I think it's really nice, I think it should get something.

Even though its got two spikes, I kinda though it would have had more than three flowers per stem

Is this its first time blooming? If you don't take it you definitely won't get an award! In the PIC's I don't see any "fatal flaws". One flower looks like the alignment of the pouch/staminode/dorsal is a bit off but that shouldn't knock it out of scoring.

Thanks! I was hoping for 4 flowers per stem but at least these are BIG flowers. No it's not a first time bloomer but these are the best quality that I remember. It is strange...that flower does look a bit crooked in the photo but it's actually not that off centre. Photographs show strange things sometimes...or maybe my eyes are just crooked. :D

It is very nice. The flowers do look big. It has great petal length as well. Another flower would be nice. Still it should go close.

This is a definate winner, and the flower-count is okay too, colour is great, the plant is superb, the cross itself a dream... No reason not to recognise the plant.
I wish I had a few of these!

Looks nice from here. Like Rick said, ya gotta play to win. It won't get an award sitting at home. Take it!

Good luck Wendy! I'm no expert on Paph judging, but I do like how wide and horizontal the side petals stretch out before they curl down. Keep us posted about the judging result! Fingers crossed :)
