Not registered to my knowledge. Surprisingly large flowers.

Cool flower. I wonder what the breeders are hoping to accomplish. I have seen lots of these complex x spicerianum hybrids on flask/plant lists. I have Hamana Spice and some flowers look very nice. Others look like through-backs.

If you look at the geneology of complexes spicerianum is normally the dominant influence in any case (all most certainly Leeanum features several times in the back-ground). If you look at Paph W.C. Leeanum is used as often as Nitens/Actaeus. Mathematically insigne is the most used species but in reality the breeders are selecting for large-size influence of the spicerianum and villosum. The only interesting feature of these hybrids is the colorful stami (which is lost in many Leeanums) and the purple stripe in the dorsal.

I can't believe that the breeders are going down this road without some goal in mind.

In any case, I'm intrigued by this line of breeding and my Leeanum is coming into flower and will (again) be used as my guinea pig. I see my Paph Bruno seed (with my Leeanum as pod parent) is germinating nicely.
