Paph micranthum deflask progress thread

Purchased a flask of Paphiopedilum micranthum from Hillsview in August. Cross is Light Pouch x Woodys AM/AOS. I find it fun to take pictures every few months to see them growing since they look the same to me when I look at them everyday .
Here they were in August... straight out of flask


Here they are in December. Some have been faster than others.

Look like they are doing well! As long as I don’t let my compots dry out they seem to be pretty easy to get going well. It is nice when the roots keep the plants in a nice arrangement always struggle if plants get separated and have to take forever to get them situated

They look great, congrats and bravo! You make me want to get a flask of micranthum. I’m surprised your bark is such large chunks. Anyone else grow flasklings in such relatively large bark? Can’t argue with success!

Only the top 1-1.5 cm of substrate is bark. Bottom I have coarse pumice (.9 - 1.2 cm) and then I have a thin layer of sphagnum before the bark. These are growing in an 8 oz deli container that i burned holes into for drainage.

Good job! but are you sure it is the typical micranthum? The leaves don't look like it based on your photo...

Thanks! If the label is to be trusted, then it should be. Both parents are typical micranthums. (I assume you mean non-eburneum)

Dan, I just don't think the leaves look like the typical micranthum...they have too much yellow/white, no purple-bluish green on the leaves. All the micranthum I had in the past, they didn't have the leaves look like this.
You can google it and compare it to the ones shown online. If it is other varieties of micranthum, you may just hit the jackpot.

Hmm. Tom, would you mind clarifying what you mean by typical? I might be misunderstanding. For me I think of three “types” of micranthum with them being eburneum with white pouch, regular with pink pouches and then the alba one.

I mean the "type"/standard pink one. It was all I had grown before, and the markings and color of the leaves were different compared to yours. Do you see any purple spots underneath the leaves?(edit, I did see some when I moved the photo around)

I wouldn't worry. At such a small size, delenatii, micrnathum, armeniacum and malipoense can look very similar. As the plants grow larger, the patterns and colors get a bit more distinct and easier to recognize. Plus, malipoense seedlings will start to show the distinct undulation along the leaf edges once the seedlings gain some size. So they are easy to rule out after about one year or two.
Time will tell.

Hillsview are pretty reliable.
I also think the leaves are 'atypical for micranthum', but we will really know in 3-4 years.

growing! Slowed down a little over the winter with overall cooler temps. Hopefully with warming temps in Spring they will pick up speed agian.
