Paph. Peppermint '#1'

When we registered this cross, we used the normal colored form of adductum and one of our best niveums. The flower was primarily white, with faint rose-pink stripes on the petals. This is the first to bloom of our Paph. Peppermint (niveum `Select' x adductum `Black Top') seedlings using the darker form of adductum. A nice improvement, with darker rose-pink suffusion and darker stripes on the petals.

Very nice, Tom. Do you think these type of hybrids (brachy x coryo) hold any future possibilities for breeding, or are they one-off crosses?

that is nice! Paph adductum never fails to surprise.....

This sort of hybridizing is usually a deadend due to chromosome differences, but there are exceptions.

I pollinated this flower (after I took the photo) with pollen from Paph. sanderianum `Birchwood', and pollinated one of our darkest, longest petalled Paph. philippinense with pollen from this Peppermint as well, thinking that the combination of these species with the adductum in Peppermint might give us stronger multifloral tendencies as well as some new colors/longer petals, etc. Should be interesting........
