Still building itself back up after my plant fell apart into several small pieces two years back. This is possibly the best it has ever flowered though. The flowers seem much bigger this time.

Paph Susan Booth 'Paracombe' (rothschildianum x praestans)

Great flowering David. I think it is awarded, a long time ago.

This plant came from Dean Johnstone. I think he grew up a whole flask of them and had two awarded - 'Highercombe' AM/AOC and another one got a HCC award. I don't think this clone got awarded though, although it is not far behind (according to Deane).

Interestingly at our last orchid society meeting, another Paph grower brought in 'Highercombe' AM/AOC and it did not look as good as my 'Paracombe', although it was nowhere near its best. He benched it at our spring show one year with 5 flowers and it won Grand Champion. It looked amazing.

But I'm really happy with my flowering this year. The colour, size, shape and presentation are wonderful. Now I just have to get some more flowers. Like my William Ambler, I have never gotten more than three on this clone.

The owner of the 'Highercombe' AM/AOC was impressed as well and took some pollen and crossed it onto his plant - a sib cross.

Magnificent. Love the yellow background to the stripes.
Did the cross take? Who has/had the flasks?

Well it was only crossed seven days ago, so it is a bit early to tell. Given the time of year it might be a while before I find out. I'll let you know how things turn out.

I'm sure you could always sell a few flasks to the Oz contingent on the forum to offset costs, if you wanted.

Well, the other grower has the pod plant so the ball is more in their court but he said he was happy to share, so we will see how things turn out.

Outstanding flowers! Good luck for the next flowering with hopefully 4 of these beauties.
