This plant came from Orchid Web around ten years ago. This is the third time it has flowered, 4 blooms previously, this time 5. As not many have been awarded I thought about putting it to the RHS orchid committee for judging. Is this good enough?

No, not good enough. You should just give it to me to dispose of.

But in all seriousness, have you taken measurements? The lowest score I'm seeing in recent-ish history (77pts in 2016) has the following measurements:

Nat Spr H 9.2
Nat Spr V 28.9
Dors Sep. W 3.5
Dors Sep. L 7.8
Petal W 1.4
Petal L 26.0
Lat/Synsepal W 3.4
Lat/Synsepal L 7.5
Lip/Pouch W 2.7
Lip/Pouch 6.0

Most of the higher awards are for plants with 5 - 6 flowers per spike, so you've got that covered, but there are some awards on plants with 4 blooms. From what I can tell, your plant's flowers are comparable to some of the already awarded clones, which is pretty encouraging!

That is very useful information, thank you. I didn't take measurements, but from memory the petal length was around 30 cm, the plant has another mature growth which I expect will flower in around 6 months all going well.

I'm no judge but I would say you should take it in. What's the worst that can happen? You might not get an award but you'll still appreciate the plant because it's still a beauty to behold!

Thank you

That is really nice. Certainly worth having it judged. Might need to stake it better though. In my experience, some judges get pretty pedantic with staking.

I am not an orchid judge. I would say yes! You have a good chance of getting an award. Besides, you will never get one if you don't enter it!

Sweet Kolosand. As for staking I like to see the long petaled slippers with an arch to the spike displaying all the individual petals hanging in rows. Just a personal preference
