They came from China last autumn in bud, freshly collected like every year before the New Year, to be used as pot plant. That's why some have very short flower spikes as they are stressed. Many abort their flower spike too. There are huge plants with huge buds, but they are more expensive and never make it to Vietnam. The small flowered type like these are sold less than 1rmb/growth in bud to the Vietnamese traders, minimum quantity 2000 plants in bud. At a point many Vietnamese sellers will sell them as coming from Vietnam, and they are everywhere. Yesterday I just saw two more boxes with one box of armeniacum. The flowers can be really small, because with experience one can screen the flower quality and size acccording to the sheat in the crown. The leaf size has less meaning, there are huge leaf small flowers plants, and my largest micranthum has very short and very wide leaves. The size and shape of the bract is the key in fact, and the Chinese prescreen all the plants. Good ones are much more expensive.
The vietnamese micranthum in bud are quite hard to get in big quantities and good condition.
