Anyone else get a PM from Meg Rivers requesting to use my beautiful picture of tarantula orchid? Obviously spam as she has no posts here.

I got an e-mail (not PM) for permission to use a pic from our web site. I think she's legit?

She appears legit but I don't have a tarantula orchid therefore didn't take any pic of one & a google search doesn't produce one either, is there such a thing? I'm concerned that a response could trigger a worm/trojan/virus, am I being paranoid?

I agree with Candace, I deleted it. I just have an uneasy feeling on this one, maybe because I was chosen! :p
I'm curious as to how many heard from her, if it is even a her!

Just curious........................
What harm would be done by answering the PM?
Maybe this person did have a valid reason to ask and maybe by not answering you missed the opportunity to meet an interesting person?

possibly this person is not internet-savvy and sent a request to use the picture to anyone who posted to that thread? if someone 'replied' to the thread and copied the first post, a picture of the p. tarantula would appear in their message body and the reader might think that 'they' posted a picture as well (and asked them for permission to use the picture.... )

not that anyone has to reply to any message if they don't want to, but if someone is already on the forum someone can send spam to anyone on the list. replying can't give you a virus or malware

TRUE but if they're a member they have access to our regular email address, (as Ernie recieved) in opening that one could get trouble if the sender is not legit.
Just giving a heads up, we look out for one another & I guess I'm finding enough interesting people here!
Being a member Meg could have easily started a thread here requesting pics for her purpose rather than just singling out 2 people.

Hey all, just a heads up. Meg emailed me and seems legit. She is writing an article and wants the photo permissions.

I still have no idea what photo/plant is the tarantula orchid but let Rose know and re-registered her.

I found the pleuro too, cool pic but I don't think Rose grows those, do you Rose?!?

Not really, had 2 pleuros, tripterantha from Eric is surviving, had amparoana which looked like an open fuzzy toilet seat.
I did send off an email to her, I'll let all know when I hear back. Suggested that she post something here about the pics she desires and introduces herself, we're such a great bunch of enablers!

I'm glad to hear this all worked out okay for everyone here as well as for Meg. PMs are one thing, but when it comes to actual emails I'd have to agree we can never be too careful.

I just heard from her, it was luvsorchids (Susan) photo. I told her how to contact member's thru the member's list and how to start a thread so hopefully we'll be hearing from her soon!
