I know, only one flower, but this is a first blooming for me. :D

It really tends on purple, helped by the lower light under the pouch.

Well you can take your pick Eric. :)

Here's another one taken outside in bright sunlight. Though I would say the green bud behind appears way to pale to me. And the color of the flower is a bit washed out.

Still that first picture seemed as real to me inside, as this one is outside.

It begs the question; how do the AOS judges make sure they see the correct colors when they judge a flower? There are always windows, I suppose. But I find light to be such a tricky thing. Had it been cloudy today, the color would probably have been different from these two photos.

Good question Michel - Judges try to determine the color of the flower under "natural light" as much as possible . It's the reason why there is usually a stream of judges bearing plants leading from the judging room to the nearest point of bright light or sun-light. Of course, this is a problem for centers that judge during other than daylight hours unless there is a source of color-corrected lighting available. The difference in pouch color in your photos is a good case in point.

It would be nice if I wasn't living alone. Another set of eyes would be very much welcome. A large skylight would be good too.;)

This is a very nice clone. You're going to really enjoy that one for many years to come.

I only photograph my plants in natural light without a flash, to get the best colour possible. To get the very best ideal true colour, orchids should only be judged outside, at mid day, on June 21 when the sun is shining. Not practical of course; but, that is the best way to see the absolute true colour.
