Phrag. humboldtii 'Mahogany Run'

Our oldest P. humboldtii clone and the second one to bloom this spring. One flower open and two more buds about to crack. No humboldtii blooms for two years, and then both clones bloom this year. Feast or famine, I guess. Petals are 12 inches long (30.5 cm) and still elongating.

Thanks all for your kind comments. Here's a photo taken this morning with all three flowers open; largest flower has 40cm petals. Time to get the tooth-pick.......

They are very dark colored, excellent plant!! Curious about the light you grow them in, where they are sitting appears to be heavily shaded, is that the total amount of light they get? Of course the whole duration of daylight period

This morning is cloudy with a few sprinkles, hence the shady appearance plus the gh is covered with 60% aluminet shade cloth over a thin coating of Kool Ray shade paint. So this part of the greenhouse receives approx 2,500 fc at noon on a sunny day this time of year. We grow all of our long petalled species at relatively high light levels all year round with watering schedules more like Paphs. than Phrags. i.e. weekly. In comparison, our Phrag. besseae plants grow in a part of the greenhouse that receives less than 1,000 fc due to an over-hanging pine tree and get watered every two days.
