Hi,
a plant acquired in bud about 3 weeks ago from Ratcliffes and comes from their current list of phrags.
It comes from the EYOF and is one of their 'spares'.
The natural spread is 11cm.
The cross is Beauport x Dalessandroi.
The plant is fully mature with a tall spike and has naturally split into two over the years.
The flower at the base of the plant is the first one - as usual with these plants they drop one flower
when the next opens,
Regards,
David

Yay besseae v. dalessandroi hybrids! We had one of these at judging atthe Conn. orchid show last week and it was judges but passed/screened because of the ruffling on the lateral petals! I think that's normal for the cross. :(

Excellent flower! With d'alessandroi in it, wouldn't you expect it to carry multiple flowers at some stage?

yep -no sign of a multiple spike.
The flower is huge - similar to, and about the same size as my avatar - La Vingtaine(kovachii x MDC). the petals are probably a bit narrower. I have this kovachhi hybrid in bud for the first time since the avatar photo ( nearly 2 years but the plant is now much bigger) so I should be able to post a comparison soon,
Regards,
David

update and comparison with la vingtaine

Hi,

a photo to show the 2nd and 3rd flowers to blooom.
For comparison I've added the dropped bloom of my avatar plant 'La vingtaine'( kovachii x MDC). They're not much smaller than that.
The kovachii hybrid is about 5.5 inches across.
I'd love to see the hybrid between la hougette and kovachii. It should be huge.

Regards,

David
